The Williams College of Business at Xavier University has launched the nation’s first Master of Science in Water Utilities Management.
According to the program description, the curriculum is designed to prepare utility leaders to thrive in a rapidly changing water sector. In 16 months of online coursework, students can earn a degree that blends essential business training-finance, marketing, data analytics, management and ethics — with specialized courses in rate setting, strategic planning, water regulations, cybersecurity, public communication and modern innovations like water reuse and AI in water systems.
A Xavier webpage about the program notes courses are fully online and asynchronous, offered in seven-week sessions that let students balance work and study. Students will learn in a supportive community, closely connected with faculty and peers.
The program features cutting-edge management practices taught by expert faculty and guided by an experienced Advisory Board representing every facet of the water sector.
The program was developed in partnership with water industry organizations, the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) and the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).
“It is a big step for water’s workforce,” wrote AWWW CEO David LaFrance on LinkedIn.
Xavier’s website notes the program is ideal for current or aspiring water utility managers at all levels or individuals with backgrounds in engineering, environmental science, public administration, or related fields who seek to advance their careers in water utility management.
