Last week, Alan Roberson, executive director of the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA) and a longtime industry veteran, announced his official retirement from the association following an extensive career in water policy.
Roberson has more than 34 years of experience in the development of drinking water policy and federal drinking water regulations. He has served as the executive director of ASDWA since 2017. Before that, he had brief stint in consulting after working for the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for 25 years where he served as its director of federal relations.
Effective July 1, Anthony DeRosa officially took the reins as ASDWA’s new executive director. In a LinkedIn post, Roberson said he will be working remotely as a senior advisor until Sept. 10, adding that he will continue to be involved in water policy in the coming years including serving in his role as a board member at Fairfax Water, a role he has held since 2009.
ASDWA‘s members (the state drinking water agencies) are co-regulators with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ASDWA and its staff work closely with EPA and the state and territorial drinking water agencies in the development and implementation of federal drinking water regulations.
