Water experts from CH2M HILL will be attending and presenting at the American Water Works Association?s 2013 Annual Conference and Exposition, one of the world?s most comprehensive and diverse water conferences June 9-13 in Denver, Colo., home to CH2M HILL?s global headquarters.
CH2M?HILL employees will share their knowledge with water professionals from around the globe during committee meetings and on a variety of speaking tracks, including capital projects financing and delivery, water treatment enhanced design principles, communicating the value of water, utility management, comprehensive approaches to disinfection, collaborating across political boundaries, asset management, biotreatment and membranes, contaminants identification and treatment, distribution system optimization, solutions to unique utility challenges, and sustainability: finding a balance. A highlight of the program will be the ?Framework and Tools for Effective Utility Management,? session to be held on Tuesday from 1:30-4:30 p.m., which was organized by the Water Research Foundation with help from CH2M HILL employees. The session will include an overview by CH2M HILL Principal Technologist Mike Matichich of the CH2M HILL-led WaterRF research project, ?Performance Benchmarking for Effectively Managed Water Utilities,? followed by a panel of utilities sharing their experience in working through the WaterRF benchmarking process and tool and the usefulness to their organization. The panel will feature Diane Taniguchi-Dennis from Clean Water Services, Frank Roth from Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, Amber Halloran from Louisville Water Company, and Gregory Anderson, NYC Department of Environmental Protection.?
Additionally, ACE13 attendees have the opportunity to tour a number of local facilities, including two delivered with support from CH2M HILL. Tuesday includes a visit to Aurora Water?s Prairie Waters Project/Peter Binney Water Purification Facility, a CH2M HILL-led project completed in 2010, which includes 34 miles of 60-inch diameter pipeline, three pump stations, a natural purification area and a new water treatment facility that is one of the most technologically advanced in the country. Wednesday includes a tour to the CH2M HILL-designed Denver Water Recycling Plant, the largest reuse project in Colorado with reclaimed water used for industrial and irrigation purposes.
The conference continues to be a venue for acknowledging the many contributions water professionals have made to the industry. CH2M?HILL?s Lawrence Benjamin, Brad Phelps and Tom Walters were recently named recipients of the prestigious AWWA Fuller Award that commemorates the sound engineering skill, brilliant diplomatic talent and constructive leadership that characterized the life of George Warren Fuller. Selected from water professionals throughout their respective geographies, Fuller awardees exemplify the highest standards of professionalism and service to engineering. Benjamin, Phelps and Walters will be inducted officially into the Fuller Society at ACE13 at the Fuller Award Breakfast Wednesday morning.
CH2M HILL will also present the Holly A. Cornell Scholarship, created by CH2M HILL to honor a firm founder, to University of Texas at Austin master?s degree student Chloe Wooldridge at the Water Industry Luncheon on June 11. The scholarship encourages and supports outstanding female or minority students pursuing graduated studies in the field of water supply and treatment.
