The Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) in Perris, California, has launched new programs aimed at helping residents and businesses use water efficiently amid conservation efforts.
A new portal called ‘Landscapes for Living‘ is now available to help residents create their ideal outdoor living space while using water efficiently. In California, approximately half of residential water consumption is used for outdoor irrigation, according to the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources. As temperatures climb and yards begin to brown, many residents are faced with the dilemma of keeping landscapes thriving while avoiding excessive water use and expensive bills.
EMWD’s Landscapes for Living is an outdoor water use efficiency program that focuses on the ease and promise of a beautiful yard, with free landscape evaluations, water-saving equipment, rebates and more to help residential customers.
EMWD said it believes the approach can be a model for other water agencies across California and other states, focusing more on the promotion of aesthetically pleasing landscapes rather than just conservation and fear of rising water rates. Features of the program include a user-friendly web portal in which EMWD customers can apply for landscape consultations, irrigation control installations, sprinkler upgrades and landscape tune-ups. The portal is accessible via mobile and includes other practical resources including landscape design inspiration, tips and more.
In addition, EMWD has also launched a separate Landscapes for Business and Beyond website and application portal. This platform is designed to better serve commercial, industrial, and institutional (CII) customers, including businesses, homeowners’ associations, and schools, by providing streamlined access to water-saving conservation programs, rebates and services, and other educational resources.
EMWD said the programs are key pillars of the district’s broader mission to promote water use efficiency and environmental stewardship.
“EMWD recognizes that conservation is bigger than just the households in our region,” said Board President Stephen Corona. “That’s why we’re working with commercial customers, including schools, warehouses, and city properties, to find water-saving solutions across our entire service area,”
