Billing solutions company raises $2.75 million seed round

Utility billing and customer information system (CIS) company, Current Software, recently announced the close of a $2.75 million seed round led by Burnt Island Ventures and Bienville Capital.

Since closing its seed round in October 2025, Current Software has deployed with 80 utilities across 16 states, which the company said demonstrates a strong market demand for modern billing solutions designed specifically for water utilities.

The investment comes as small- and mid-sized utilities across the United States face mounting pressure from aging infrastructure, outdated software systems, and year-long migration challenges. The utility market represents over $1 trillion in annual revenue. Current primarily targets the 45,000 water utilities under 10,000 service connections, which are largely reliant on legacy, on-premise solutions for managing customers and billing.

“The biggest challenge these utilities face isn’t just outdated technology — it’s billing vendors who don’t understand small system constraints,” said Burnt Island Ventures partner Christine Boyle. “Current Software gets it. They’re building for teams of 6, not teams of 600. That focus, combined with their exceptional customer results, made this an easy investment decision.”

Current Software brings utilities onto its holistic platform in 6-10 weeks on average, which the company said is a stark contrast to the more typical 12-plus month implementations plaguing the industry.

“A massive percentage of utility billing implementations fail within the first year,” said Current Software founder and CEO Barrett Hansen. “We’re seeing utilities stuck with legacy systems that are dying, migrations that never end, or manual workarounds that waste dozens of hours per week. We built Current Software to get small utilities out of that trap.”

The Current Software platform features rapid implementation, an intuitive interface with user-friendly workflows that anyone on the team can navigate, field mobility, an integrated customer portal and more.

Current Software said it will be applying its new round of seed funding to further expand its team to reach more underserved utilities and accelerate product development based on customer feedback.
