AMWA welcomes legislative affairs manager, new board members

The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) recently announced Megan Seymour has joined the association as its new manager of legislative affairs.

Seymour has an interdisciplinary background in infrastructure, natural resources conservation, public policy, and politics. She previously served as a legislative assistant for Representative Jesús G. “Chuy” García (D-IL), managing a diverse portfolio of policy issues, including transportation and infrastructure committee work, energy, labor, and environmental justice. She also led legislative efforts such as drafting bills on transportation safety, environmental justice, and transit accessibility.

Seymour also worked as a digital advocacy coordinator for the National Wildlife Federation, managing a campaign to invest in conservation and recover at-risk wildlife.

In addition, AMWA recently announced a new slate of officers during its fall board meeting at its 2024 Executive Management Conference in Miami, Florida. Executive Board members announced were:

  • Jeff Szabo, Chief Executive Officer of Suffolk County Water Authority, is AMWA’s new president;
  • Calvin Farr, General Manager/CEO of Prince William Water was elevated to vice president;
  • Lindsey Rechtin, President/CEO of Northern Kentucky Water District, became the treasurer; and
  • Chris Browning, General Manager of Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust, assumed the secretary position.

The association also announced that following an online vote of AMWA’s membership, five new individuals joined AMWA’s Board of Directors:

  • Will Pickering of the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority;
  • Kenneth Waldroup of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority;
  • Alex Chen of Seattle Public Utilities;
  • Rachel Murphy of Contra Costa Water District; and
  • Shaun Pietig of WaterOne.

Three current board members were also reelected to serve another term:

  • LIndsey Rechtin of Northern Kentucky Kentucky Watet District;
  • Ghassan Korban of the New Orleans Water and Sewerage Board; and
  • Tad Bohannon of Central Arkansas Water.
