Henrico Water in Henrico County, Virginia, won the Best of the Best Water Taste Test at the American Water Works Association‘s (AWWA) Annual Conference & Exhibition (ACE25), held June 8-11 in Denver, Colorado. Denver Water was named the winner of the People’s Choice Water Taste Test.
The competitions, sponsored by WSP, included 26 regional winners from water tasting competitions across North America. Second place in the Best of the Best Water Taste Test went to the Taylorsville Bennion Improvement District in South Taylorsville, Utah, and third place went to the City of Ames, Iowa.
The Best of the Best Water Taste Test is judged by a panel that included trained water flavor profilers, and the People’s Choice Taste Test is judged by conference attendees.
The Henrico Water treatment facility began operations on April 26, 2004, and is permitted to treat 80 million gallons of water per day. The facility is designed to expand to meet the growth needs of Henrico County, Virginia.
Other regional winners in the Best of the Best included: City of Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island in Canada, last year’s champion; Mobile Area Water & Sewer System in Alabama; City of Fountain Valley, California; Washington Aqueduct – Dalecarlia Water Treatment Plant in Washington, D.C.; Talquin Electric Cooperative in Quincy, Florida; City of Winder/Inframark in Winder, Georgia; City of Paris, Illinois; Erwin Utilities in Erwin, Tennessee; City of Bloomington, Minnesota; Missouri American Water in St. Louis; City of Missoula Water in Montana; Passaic Valley Water Commission in New Jersey; Two Rivers Utilities/Gastonia in Gastonia, N.C.; York Region in Ontario, Canada; City of Spokane, Washington; Puerto Rico Authority Aqueduct & Sewage; City of Rapid City, South Dakota; City of Norman, Oklahoma; Beckley Water Company in West Virginia; City of Portage la Prairie in Manitoba, Canada; and City of Appleton, Department of Utilities, in Wisconsin.
ACE25 brought an estimated 11,000 water professionals to the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. ACE is the longest-running water conference in the world, having first convened in 1881. The event featured more than 440 expert presentations and an exposition featuring more than 450 exhibitors.
