Lisa Sparrow, president and CEO of Utilities, Inc. (UI), has announced that Matthew Klein has joined the company as the new President of North Carolina and Tennessee, replacing Carl Daniel who is retiring at the end of June.

Prior to joining UI, Klein was the Executive Director of Technical Operations at the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC). In that role he oversaw utility analysts and other professionals within the water/wastewater, electric, natural gas, resource planning and communications, and external affairs divisions of the OUCC.
Previously, Klein served as the Executive Director of the Department of Waterworks for the City of Indianapolis (Indianapolis Water) and also served as an Assistant Commissioner at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. He has also practiced environmental law with several law firms in Indiana and is a member of the American Water Works Association and the American Bar Association.
He received his B.S. in Political Science and Evironmental Science from Taylor University, his MS in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from Ball State University and his law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law.
