
Underwood
Mac Underwood, general manager at Birmingham Water Works, was elected to serve as president of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) for the coming year at the 2017 Executive Management Conference in St. Simons, Ga., earlier this month.
Underwood oversees all areas of the Birmingham Water Works Board’s daily operations. He is a certified public accountant, a certified government finance officer, and a certified government finance manager. Presently, Underwood also serves on the American Water Works Association’s board of directors, as well as having served two terms on the board of directors for the Water Research Foundation. Underwood has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and possesses an extensive background in finance and computer information management. He is a member of the Alabama Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. Previously, Underwood served six years as director of finance for the City of Birmingham.
The AMWA Board of Directors also selected Steve Schneider of St. Paul Regional Water Services as vice president, Angela Licata of New York City Department of Environmental Protection as Treasurer and John Entsminger of Las Vegas Valley Water District as Secretary.
The membership voted to fill three at-large board vacancies: Kathryn Sorenson, Phoenix Water Services; Robert Davis, Cleveland Division of Water; and Kevin Gertig, Fort Collins Utilities. Elected to expiring board seats were: Underwood; Jeffrey Szabo, Suffolk County Water Authority; Robert Hunter, Municipal Water District of Orange County; and William Stowe, Des Moines Water Works.
