SMART METERING: Tullahoma Utilities Board Selects Mueller Systems for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Meter Project

The Tullahoma Utilities Board (TUB) has selected Mueller Systems, a leading provider of innovative water infrastructure products and services and technologically advanced metering systems for water, electric and gas systems, to upgrade its water and electric infrastructure with a state-of-the-art advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network and water and electric smart meters. Mueller Systems is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products Inc., a leading North American provider of water infrastructure products and services, and offers a full line of residential, fire line and commercial meters, AMI and automatic meter reading (AMR) systems and related products that optimize the delivery and use of water and energy.

Mueller Systems will provide TUB with the Mi.Net Mueller Infrastructure Network for Utilities ? an advanced two-way AMI network ? as well as Mueller Systems? Hersey water meters and Landis+Gyr?s solid state electric meters for more than 19,000 service connections. A customer-owned utility that provides water, electric and wastewater services to a population base of approximately 25,000 people throughout Tullahoma, Tenn., TUB is scheduled to begin installing the Mi.Net System and the new water and electric smart meters in September 2011.

?The Tullahoma Utilities Board is always looking for new ways to better serve its customers and streamline operations,? said Brian Skelton, utility manager, TUB. ?Leveraging the Mi.Net System and upgrading our service connections with smart meters will create a ?win-win? scenario by helping us to reduce costs through improved operational efficiency while giving our customers the ability to better understand and manage their water and electricity usage.?

The Mi.Net System enables utilities to improve operational efficiencies and customer service by fully automating the meter reading-to-billing process, linking meters, distribution sites and control devices in a single data network. Benefits provided by the Mi.Net System include on-demand meter readings, e-mail alerts and alarms based upon near real-time information as well as the ability for utilities to best manage their water and electric resources through ongoing access to custom data and information. A recent enhancement to the Mi.Net System is Mi.Data ? a web-based portal that enables municipalities to strengthen relationships with consumers by providing a consolidated view of water and electricity usage online.

?We are proud to announce our partnership with the Tullahoma Utilities Board, as the Mi.Net System will enable them to significantly improve the level of service they provide to their customers, the operational efficiency of their water and electric systems, and their ability to more accurately account for the water and electricity they distribute,? said Hassan Ali, vice president and general manager of Mueller Systems.
