Problem Statements and Resource Guests Announced As 2015 Water/Energy Nexus Registration Opens

As California continues to experience severe drought, industry leaders continue to look for innovative solutions and encourage public participation in solving our water and energy problems.

July 20, 2015 ? (SAN FRANCISCO) ? The Water Innovation Project has announced that registration is now open to coders, policy makers, water and energy experts and interested parties for the 2015 Water/Energy Nexus Hackathon, which is being held August 15 & 16 at General Assembly?s offices in San Francisco. The event, with a keynote sponsorship from California American Water, is intended to engage the public in designing applications that address current water and energy challenges.

With plans to host 100 hackers, coders and specialists, the event organizers have invited a number of resource guests to assist teams as they work on solving some timely problems. ?We want to make sure the participants at this event have access to thought leaders who can help answer questions and provide valuable feedback on the projects,? said Christopher Peacock, founder of H2.O and The Water Innovation Project, two of the event’s sponsors. ?We are encouraging all of the participants to leverage these resource guests to gain deeper insights into the problems we are all looking to solve.?

With more than $5,000 in prize money and giveaways at stake, The Water Innovation Project has teamed up with sponsors such as ESRI, FATHOM, Smart H2O Summit and the Presidio Graduate School Alumni to develop an engaging program. Additionally, The Water Innovation Project and EPA have signed a joint Co-Sponsorship Agreement to leverage the EPA?s Developer Central website and datasets (the EPA does not endorse any commercial product, service, or enterprise associated with this event). Collectively, the event sponsors have identified 5 problem statements for participants to work on during the two-day event which can be found on the event?s website at http://www.waterinnovationproject.com/hackathon-2/

Judges for the event will be announced in the coming weeks. ?The judges come from a variety of public and private organizations. They each have a unique contribution to make to this event and we are fortunate to have each one of them. We look forward to announcing their participation as we get closer to the event,? Peacock mentioned. ?In the meantime, we encourage participants to sign up for the event early, as we expect it will sell out.?
