Poseidon Selects GHD for Huntington Beach Desalination Project

Poseidon Resources (Surfside) LLC, developer and owner of the 50 million gallons-per-day (mgd) Huntington Beach Seawater Desalination Project recently announced it has selected GHD to lead a team to serve as the owner?s engineer for the project.

The project is in the final phase of the permitting process. Poseidon has applied for a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) from the California Coastal Commission and expects the commission to consider approval of the permit later this year. Approval of the CDP is the final permit necessary to commence project construction, anticipated for the second half of 2013.

GHD, one of the worlds? leading engineering and environmental consulting companies, will lead a multi-disciplinary team to support Poseidon in the development and implementation of the project. The team will undertake a range of advisory and engineering services, including assisting Poseidon to prepare contractual bid documentation to pave the way for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.

GHD has been providing engineering and environmental innovations to the water industry since 1928. The company has extensive global experience in the implementation of large scale seawater desalination plants, having most recently assisted the state governments of New South Wales and Victoria in Australia to implement the 66-mgd Sydney Desalination Plant ($2 billion) and the 110-mgd Victorian Desalination Plant ($3.5 billion).

GHD is currently the owner?s engineer for Poseidon Resources? 50-mgd Carlsbad Desalination Plant, and has provided engineering, planning and advisory services for a number of other desalination projects in Southern California.
