The Board of Directors of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) today announced the election of Jim Chaffee, a Wisconsin-based engineer with the global firm Jacobs, as the Association?s next president-elect.
Chaffee will assume his new position at AWWA?s Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE12) in Dallas, Texas, in June 2012, and will begin his year-long term as president in 2013.
A registered professional engineer in six states, Chaffee earned his Bachelors of Science in civil engineering and his MBA from the University of Wisconsin system. He has developed his expertise in water quality, treatment and regulation over a career that has spanned more than 35 years. Chaffee currently provides technical and business strategy support for Jacobs? North American infrastructure group.
Chaffee is focused on highlighting opportunities AWWA offers for interaction among members of the water community and its leaders, as well as for personal and professional growth – particularly for young professionals. ?I look forward to helping the association continue our mission as the authoritative resource for water, while embracing technology and addressing the needs of younger members,? Chaffee said.
In addition to Chaffee, the board also elected four vice presidents. They are Reid Campbell, director of water services for Halifax Water in Nova Scotia; Mark Cline, project engineer in charge of capital projects for the Charleston (S.C.) Water System; Dave Koch, project director for Black & Veatch in the Great Lakes region; and Rosemary Burbulis Smud, senior sales engineer with American Ductile Iron Pipe in Sacramento, Calif.
The board also affirmed the appointment by the Executive Committee of Dave Rager to serve a four-year term as treasurer. A retired CEO of the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, Rager is taking over the helm of SD1, a wastewater and storm water utility serving Northern Kentucky. One director-at-large was also elected. Sean Osborne is a project manager with Haley and Ward, Inc., in Waltham, Mass. The new vice presidents, treasurer and director-at-large will also assume their duties during the annual conference in June. In the line of AWWA presidents, Chaffee will follow Charlie Anderson, a Texas-based management consultant with CDM Smith.
