DC Water hires new general counsel

DC Water announced in November that Marc Battle will serve as its general council and executive vice president for legal affairs. The announcement followed a rigorous national search overseen by the DC Water Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled to have Marc and his expertise here at DC Water,” said Chief Executive Officer David L. Gadis. “Marc will provide strong, fresh leadership for our legal department and help us continue to provide world-class service to our customers.”

Battle comes to DC Water from Potomac Electric Power Company, the electric utility for the District and the Maryland suburbs. He most recently served as Pepco Region Vice President, handling public policy and stakeholder relations with government officials, community leaders and business, consumer and nonprofit organizations. Prior to assuming the role of Region Vice President, Battle served as Associate General Counsel, representing Pepco Holdings in the District of Columbia and Maryland.

Battle practiced law initially in the federal and local government. He served as Senior Counsel and Communications Director in the U.S. House of Representatives, and subsequently as Counsel to the Committee on Government Operations for the Council of the District of Columbia. Battle later joined the law firm of Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, LLP in its New York office, and then served as Assistant Counsel at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

He is a 1999 graduate of the University of the District of Columbia and a 2002 graduate of the Howard University School of Law.
