Cleveland Water Alliance, NASA Glenn, Ohio Aerospace Institute Hosting Ohio Water Innovation Summit

The Cleveland Water Alliance, NASA Glenn Research Center and the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) Distinguished Lecture Series are hosting the 2015 Ohio Water Innovation Summit on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the OAI in Cleveland.

World-renowned NASA scientist, Jay Famiglietti, Ph.D., will present ?A Lens on California: Emerging Threats to Regional and Global Water Security.? He will discuss how NASA satellites are being used to track freshwater availability and groundwater depletion from space; use a case study of the California drought; and then show how the issues we face are not unique to the region and are actually occurring all over the world.

Famiglietti is a hydrologist, a professor of Earth System Science and of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, and the senior water scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology. He was appointed by California Governor Jerry Brown to the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board, and he was the founding director of the UC Center for Hydrologic Modeling at UC Irvine.

Famiglietti has been featured on countless news networks including Rachel Maddow, CNN, CBS News 60 Minutes and in the documentary ?Last Call at the Oasis.? He is also a regular contributor to: National Geographic Water Currents, Huffington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Economist, CNN/Fareed Zakaria GPS, National Public Radio and the BBC Radio.

Members of NASA Glenn?s Regional Economic Development Initiative Team, NASA researchers, the Cleveland Water Alliance, federal, industry and academia will gather to exchange ideas and share best practices.
