The American Membrane Technology Association and the American Water Works Association announced four awardees at this year?s Membrane Technology Conference. Awardees were recognized at an awards luncheon during the conference in Orlando, Fla., last week.

MWH Global has announced that Paul Demit has joined the company as senior vice president and director of program management in the Americas region.

Kurt Bruenning has joined Aclara Technologies LLC as the chief financial officer, senior vice president of finance, accounting, information technology and legal functions. Aclara is a provider of smart infrastructure technologies and software solutions to the utility industry.

The County of Los Angeles has voted to make the Home Energy Renovation Opportunity (HERO) Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program available to local residents. In January, congressmen reintroduced H.R. 499, the Sustainable Water Infrastructure Investment Act of 2015, in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Sustainable Water Infrastructure Coalition (SWIC), the advocacy group supporting the bill and private activity bond legislation says it expects the bill to be introduced in the Senate in the coming weeks.

While building models is nothing new, when it comes to water and wastewater utilities, the idea of emulating a system in order to simulate a real-world situation without risk is a concept that is becoming essential for ideal decision-making.

Without adequate transportation, water supply, sanitation, energy systems and social infrastructure such as schools and hospitals, countries risk lagging behind their peers in the growth of economic development drivers, including businesses and the jobs they create.
