AMWA: LCR revisions hit Federal Register

After being unveiled Dec. 22, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published the final Lead and Copper Rule revisions in the Jan. 15 Federal Register. The incoming Biden administration plans to review rules finalized in the closing days of the Trump administration that have not taken effect as of Jan. 20. With an effective date of March 16, the LCR revisions will fall into this category.

The new administration may further delay the rule’s effective date to buy time to contemplate additional changes, but any further revisions proposed to the LCR will have to go through a new notice and comment process.

Water systems must now work to comply with the rule’s requirements before the Jan. 16, 2024 deadline.
