American Water’s Mark Smith Receives 2016 Executive Management Award

American Water vice president and chief information officer Mark Smith was honored by Philadelphia SmartCEO magazine with a 2016 Executive Management Award. SmartCEO’s Executive Management Awards program recognizes C-suite executives including CFOs, CIOs and CTOs for their creative management, vision, leadership philosophy, innovative strategy and undeniable work ethic. These executives are individuals who uphold the highest ethics, lead collaboratively and creatively, and enhance and support their organization’s mission.

Smith joined American Water in 2008 and brings more than 30 years of technology expertise and leadership experience in the development, implementation, and support of IT solutions. Appointed to his current position in September 2012, Smith is responsible for all aspects of information technology service delivery and management including Information Technology Services’ (ITS) support of American Water’s business transformation and SAP migration. His strategic focus for the ITS organization is one based on developing internal business partnerships, establishing a service oriented culture, and optimizing (and making more transparent) IT costs.

Smith is actively involved in community efforts and formerly served as Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for Touch New Jersey, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computers and information systems from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. and currently resides in Downingtown, Pa.

Smith will be recognized with the rest of this year’s Executive Management Award winners in the March/April issue of SmartCEO magazine and was celebrated earlier this month at an awards ceremony.
